First Martyrs of the Church of Rome

Today is the feast of the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. I remember when I was watching “The Vice of Rome” on the History Channel they spoke about Martyrdom in Rome by Nero.

This image off to the left is only a small fraction of tortures our Brothers and Sisters went through for Our Lord. Can we do just that, are we really truly able to do that, would we risk our lives for God? Or will we sell-out?

Brother Peter Martyr, OP who spoke to the Saint Patrick’s 20s Group spoke about Martyrs and their great witness to not just for God, but for the Church. Right now we need to look at not only these first Martyrs of the Church in Rome, but all of them. Ask them to pray for us as we are fighting for our faith and the teachings of the Church.

O God, who consecrated the abundant first fruits of the Roman Church by the blood of the Martyrs, grant, we pray, that with firm courage we may together draw strength from so great a struggle and ever rejoice at the triumph of faithful love. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
